Agro-Economic Evaluation of Alternative Crop Management Options for Teff Production in Midland Agro-Ecology, Ethiopia

چکیده

Teff is an important crop for smallholder farmers in Ethiopia. Improved management practices are needed to increase teff productivity and decrease production costs. Here, we used a split–split plot design evaluate the impacts of different tillage, sowing, soil compaction practices, their combinations, on agronomic performance, weed population, lodging, cost at Aba Gerima watershed northwestern Ethiopia 2018–2020. Reduced tillage (RT) improved moisture, resulting increased performance decreased costs compared with conventional (CT); however, population was substantially larger RT than CT. Row planting (RP) reduced seed lodging but sowing weeding broadcast (BP). Plant leaf area index were greater BP RP during early-stage growth, this reversed late-stage growth. Despite labor being significantly (WC) without (NC), little no differences observed or performance. Partial cost–benefit analysis revealed that RT–RP–WC followed by RT–RP–NC most economical treatment combination, suggesting could be labor-effective means increasing farms

Crop production growth in different agro-ecological zones of Bangladesh

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the progress and regional variations of crop production in Bangladesh. The secondary data were used and collected for the years 1980-81 to 2002-03 from the ‘Statistical Yearbooks of Bangladesh’, ‘Yearbook of Agricultural Statistics’ and population census of different years. The study was conducted during the period from September 2006 to February 2008. A...

Strengthening Alternative Agro -

This paper will answer the question raised by the ongoing debate on the conditions of Alternative Agro-Food Networks (AAFN) strengthened in the specific context of different European countries. Modern, sustainable local food systems are built on the basis of social networks which linked different actors into a coherent, horizontal web. Producers, processors and consumers are bonded by a common...

Action and Semantics of Time in Agro-Ecology

In the systemic approach, the system is perceived as an action or a collection of overlapping actions expressed in reference to Time, Space, and Morphology (or Energy). When the system is studied by different disciplines, the referentials differ, as well as the semantics of terms used to describe the action. In order to establish the vocabulary of a collection of actions involving several disci...

Crop pathogen emergence and evolution in agro-ecological landscapes

Remnant areas hosting natural vegetation in agricultural landscapes can impact the disease epidemiology and evolutionary dynamics of crop pathogens. However, the potential consequences for crop diseases of the composition, the spatial configuration and the persistence time of the agro-ecological interface - the area where crops and remnant vegetation are in contact - have been poorly studied. H...

Economic Evaluation of Alternative Manure Management Systems for Pork Production

Producers, researchers, vendors, regulators, and policy-makers are evaluating alternative manure management systems. Motivations include reduction of the level and risk of emissions of potential pollutants to the environment (nutrients, odor, particulates and precursors, gases, and pathogens) as well as the capture of potentially valuable constituents of manure (nutrients, energy, and water). U...
